Profile

 

Antonio Cassio is an individual with high creativity, dedication and commitment. A great craftsman, he has been recognised worldwide as one of the leading artists within the mosaic field. His work, carried out both in Italy and overseas, have encompassed major projects, including key restoration mosaic work in monuments and buildings of national importance.

 

Born in Rome on October 24 1931 in a family of mosaicists, he began working life in 1945, and for the next 18 years worked in partnership with his brother at the Studio Cassio.

 

In 1964, he founded the Cooperative Mosaici Artistici di Roma, working there until 1969, when he opened his own studio, the Laboratorio mosaici artistici, working with his own sons, who themselves are fourth generation mosaic craftsmen.

 

He was further awarded in 1969 first place in a nation-wide tendering for the position as a mosaic worker for the Heritage Ministry.

 

It is impossible to list the thousand of square meters of mosaic work carried out over the years, both in restoration and new mosaics, but the following will provide examples of works undertaken.
